What to Look for in a Mini Microwave:

When shopping for a mini microwave there are a few things to look out for.  Check to see if the interior of the microwave will fit a standard sized dinner plate.  Some small-sized microwaves will and some won’t.  And a few models will only fit in a plate if you squeeze it in.  Many meals you will be cooking in a microwave will require a dinner plate, so it is usually preferable to find one that fits a plate in with a little room to spare.

Another thing to look out for is the function of a mini microwave.  Is it enough to cater for all your needs?  Does it have defrosting?  How much power does it have?  Make sure the small microwave you choose has all the functions and features you need.  If you prefer fast cooking times, try to find one that has decent power (check out the amount of watts).  A turntable is also very important for even cooking and heating.  Try to find a model in which the interior tray spins whilst cooking.

Compact Microwave Suitability:

A compact microwave is ideal for those with limited space such as in small kitchens or apartments, dorm rooms, offices, RV’s and for small or shallow counter-tops.  The minimal footprint a small-sized microwave provides allows you to fit them into places that would be too small for a larger sized oven.

Small microwave ovens are also a good option for those not needing a full-sized countertop microwave oven with all the fancy features.  Those only needing basic microwaving needs and like the simplicity, can save on space and cost by opting for a compact microwave oven.

The Advantages of Small Microwave Ovens:

  • Small Footprint – Can fit into spaces normal sized microwaves could not.
  • Performs Basic Microwave Needs – Cooking, reheating and even defrosting of foods.
  • Low Wattage – A good choice for those with power restrictions.
  • Simple to Use – As the smaller unit’s don’t have as many buttons, they can be a breath of fresh air for those who prefer simplicity.
  • Cook anything on a plate – As long as your mini microwave fits a standard sized dinner plate, you can cook pretty much anything that fits on a plate.
  • No need to miss out on lots of features – You can find small microwave ovens which have some of the benefits of the larger models, such as one touch quick cooking buttons.
